  • Abstract: Ken Cheng was born in Hong Kong. His family emigrated to Toronto, Canada while he was still young, and he attended high school in Toronto, and then the University of Toronto. He has a M.Ed. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA in 1984. He did postdoctoral work at the University of Sussex and at the University of Western Ontario before becoming a University Research Fellow back at the University of Toronto. Since 1995, he has worked at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, where he is currently Professor in the Discipline of Brain, Behaviour and Evolution in the Department of Biological Sciences. His field of study is comparative cognition and he is best known for his work on navigation, having conducted research on a range of species including lab rats, various birds, humans, honeybees, and desert ants.
