Four prose poems, apparently told by Oscar Wilde and written down from memory by Gabrielle Enthoven, who had them printed in pamphlet form. In 1912 the stories appeared in "Mask", claiming to be written out by Aimée Lowther who was told them as a child by Wilde. Rupert Hart-Davies (Letters of Oscar Wilde, 1962, p. 809) speculates that she may have used a copy of "Echoes" as the authority for her versions. Wilde refers to "The poet" in a letter to Lowther ca.1899.
